THE PASSING OF COLIN BAINES - A TRUE BROTHER IN THE LORD AND LOYAL CHRISTIAN FOR NEARLY EIGHTY YEARS

Dear Friends,
I bring you the sad news that our dear friend Colin Baines has passed away at the grand old age of 96, but we rejoice with you all that this lovely brother in the Lord is now at peace with the Lord.

Obviously with the current situation, a proper funeral service cannot place but a full memorial service will be held once this wretched lockdown is finished. Nevertheless a limited service will be taking place today, details below, and we pray that everyone attending and associated with this event will feel the presence of our Blessed Lord Jesus.

I have just scoured my blog and gone back to June 2012 with fond recollections of a time when dear Colin had us all in tears with one of his many devotions. Here is what was written following one of our Conferences in Saltburn:

I would like to include here a short tribute from my friend Neville Stephens about our mutual good friend in the Lord, Colin Baines. Neville was in Saltburn with us last week and met up with Colin again after meeting him for the first time in Saltburn last year. We all love Colin very much, and I think Neville (in this article from his own blog) sums up what we all think of this dear brother in Christ.

Above is a photo of our dear saint in the Lord, Colin Baines from Leyburn, which was taken at Saltburn last week. Colin has been a Christian for over seventy years, and walks very closely with the Lord. His devotional on Thursday on Mary smelling of the "Odour Of Jesus" after washing the feet, and then and drying her Master with her own hair (John 12:3) was the highlight of the week for me, and many others from our time in the North East Yorkshire Christian Resort. He started his message with one of his many jokes (listed on this blog), which had us all crying with laughter. But by the end of his twenty minute devotional, he had us crying again, but this time with tears of joy and emotion in our eyes.

Colin is deaf in one ear, and with the help of a hearing aid, he can hear just a little in the other ear if you speak loudly. He has one glass eye, and has poor sight in the other. He had to use the largest print Bible available, and even then he had to use a magnifying glass to read his beloved Scriptures. He uses a walking stick, and gets about in a very hesitant manner.

Despite his ageing body, Colin is full of the joy of the Lord, and he knows that one day he will receive his new glorious resurrection body from Yeshua, and these "temporary" ailments will be a thing of the past. I also know he will receive that highly deserved accolade, "Well done my good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of My presence" (Matthew 25:21). Please pray for Colin as he awaits these two highly merited rewards, for he is a true saint of the Lord and a shining light in this dark age in which we live.

Ray Barton has remained a good friend of both Colin and myself, and said "I thought you might like to know all of the above, and also I want to say that I will give a very short reminisce of Colin and thought I could not do better than repeat the words from your blog (with credit) after Colin's devotion when He went for supper to Lazarus, Martha and Mary. It still brings tears to the eyes! It will be on zoom so you are welcome to join with us if you are able - all detail below.

Subject: COLIN BAINES - Funeral Service - Tuesday 23rd June 2020

We would like to update you on the funeral arrangements for Colin Baines, arranged for Tuesday 23rd June 2020.
Funeral Cortege
Swainson's are arranging the private family funeral. The hearse bearing Colin's coffin will drive from Swainson's in town past Starbeck Mission at between 1:35-1:45pm to enable friends of Colin to line up (socially distanced) along Forest Avenue and pay their respects.
The hearse will then proceed down Forest Avenue, over the crossing, up Hookstone Chase and down Wetherby Road into Stonefall Cemetery. Geoff Brewster is the funeral director. Starbeck Mission will be open so anyone can go in afterwards for private prayer to lift up the family on this sad day.
Private Family Funeral
Colin's close family will go directly to Stonefall Cemetery where Richard Buckle and Don Rolls will co-lead the private family burial service, which is what Colin desired. This service will commence at 2.00pm and take between 20-25 minutes. Colin's 4 children: Chris, Steven, Marc and Lesley will be there along with other close family members.
Colin is to be buried in the family grave where their 2nd child Martin (who died at 20 months) is buried along with Elizabeth's ashes.

We'll have a couple of hymns which were Colin's favourites and then Roger Carswell will close with a 10 minute message. The whole meeting will last no more than 1 hour, so finish at 7.45pm.
