I am going to share some information with you in this article that nobody is talking about, but I believe that it is exceedingly important. Iran has been weaponizing some of the most deadly pathogens known to humanity, and that includes smallpox. The United States has known about Iran’s biological weapons program for more than 30 years. So have the Russians. If the Iranians were to suddenly release an extremely contagious disease in the United States and Israel, millions could potentially die. This is a threat that we should be taking very seriously, but we aren’t.

After announcing a preliminary agreement with Iran in June, Trump wrote, “This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region.” Regional hostilities subsequently resumed, demonstrating how quickly sweeping declarations of peace can outrun events on the ground.

During a State Department presentation at a global conference in Brazil, the error-strewn map relocated a number of African countries elsewhere on the continent. Footage showed attendees of the Aids 2026 conference in Rio de Janeiro capturing the moment audience members noticed the mistake.

Subsequent analysis of the image indicated that the map was whipped up by a staff member using artificial intelligence, made with OpenAI tools. The image showed Nigeria being landlocked somewhere in the Sahara Desert, while Mozambique was shifted to the Horn of Africa. Meanwhile, Côte d'Ivoire in the west was transported to the other side of the continent. 

The State Department admitted "full responsibility" for the error, claiming the map was created by a team member who had quickly changed the presentation ahead of the event. In a statement, the State Department said: "We take full responsibility for the confusion and misrepresentation it caused for attendees, including our African partners."

Aids expert Emily Bass was one of the first to share a baffled response online, sharing the image on LinkedIn. "Whoever created and approved this slide did not know where countries in Africa are and did not care to check their work," Matt Petit, who focuses on AI and geopolitics at the Atlantic Council, commented.

Despite the erroneous map, the State Department said the talks were "substantive and constructive", vowing to continue its support to fight against Aids. The conference presentation was delivered by one of Donald Trump's senior officials, in charge of the President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (Pepfar).

Israeli West Bank settler says attacks on Palestinians are justified as revenge

The Israeli settler outpost of Havat Gilad, deep inside the occupied West Bank, is spread across several hilltops, its sheds and simple block houses clearly visible from neighbouring Palestinian villages.

Last weekend saw a wave of settler attacks on Palestinian villages in the area, after an Israeli security guard from Havat Gilad was killed during a confrontation between Palestinians and Israelis in the village of Tal last Friday.

Four Palestinians and an Israeli soldier were also killed in the incident, the original cause of which is disputed. 

After spending the weekend speaking to Palestinians around Havat Gilad, we drove into the outpost itself, to ask one of its residents about the violence, and the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

It is rare for an international media organisation like the BBC to be allowed into these outposts. But on this occasion, Yehuda Shimon, a lawyer with an organisation that represents Israelis arrested for violence against Palestinians, agreed to speak.

He told me that attacks on Palestinian villages last weekend were justified as revenge for the killing of the outpost's security guard.

"I think now, after they killed one Israeli, we need to kill all the people in Tal and Sarra, even Jit and Farata," he said, naming the Palestinian villages closest to the outpost.
