Police Scotland is assessing a disturbing video in which children are encouraged to play a game defending Al-Aqsa Mosque from “Zios”, following concerns about Edinburgh primary-school teacher, Sara El-Awaisi.

This follows a report made to Police Scotland with the assistance of UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI).
The video, published on 15 September 2026 on Instagram shows El-Awaisi and another woman demonstrating a children’s hand game in which “Zios” try to seize Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock. Children are encouraged not to “let the Zios grab your mosque” and to play the game themselves. Police Scotland has received a report about the footage and has confirmed that its contents are “currently being assessed”.
The City of Edinburgh Council has also confirmed to The Sunday Times that it is investigating the video. The Council would not say whether she had been suspended, citing confidentiality, although her name is no longer on the staff page of Liberton Primary School, where she had been listed as a Primary 5 teacher.
El-Awaisi is a primary-school teacher, co-founder and Deputy Director of “Educators for Peace” and founder of “Aqsa For Kids”. UKLFI has previously raised concerns about material in which El-Awaisi encourages children to regard the “liberation” of Al-Aqsa as a personal responsibility.
In recorded sessions, children have been encouraged to chant: “I will be strong so that Al-Aqsa Mosque is strong, I will liberate Al-Aqsa Mosque Inshallah.” In a January 2026 presentation entitled “Raising the Liberation”, El-Awaisi argued that devotion to Al-Aqsa should be instilled in children’s “hearts and minds” from a young age and called for a move from the “theoretical aspect of Islam to practical application”.
An “Aqsa For Kids” social media post has also shown children wearing keffiyehs and attending demonstrations, including chanting “Israel is a terror state”.
El Awaisi has also urged supporters to implement “Bayt al-Maqdis culture” in “our homes, in our workspaces, in our schools”.
UKLFI is concerned that the latest video goes further, by portraying “Zios” as a hostile group threatening a Muslim holy site and casting children themselves in the role of resisting them. Thomas Kerr MSP has now raised the video with Scottish Education Secretary, Màiri McAllan.
A UKLFI spokesperson said:
“The fact that Police Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council are now examining this video underlines the seriousness of these concerns.
“This should not be viewed in isolation. Sara El-Awaisi has repeatedly directed highly politicised ‘liberation’ messaging at children and encouraged them to see protecting and ‘liberating’ Al-Aqsa as a personal responsibility.
“The Scottish Government should urgently establish whether this ideology or related materials are being brought into Scottish classrooms, teacher training or publicly funded educational programmes. “Children should not be recruited into an ideological campaign.” FULL REPORT AT: https://www.uklfi.com/police-scotland-assessing-zios-video-involving-edinburgh-primary-teacher |
