'A dark day for British Jews' As Gaza Supporter And Pro-Palestinian firebrand George Galloway's wins Rochdale by-election.

'A dark day for British Jews': Pro-Palestinian firebrand George Galloway's Rochdale by-election win 'will bring politics of division and hate' to the Commons, Jewish community warns

Jewish groups have reacted with horror after George Galloway won the Rochdale by-election, warning he will bring 'the politics of division and hate' to the Commons.

The pro-Palestinian firebrand was attacked over his 'atrocious record of baiting the Jewish community' after running on a platform dominated by the war in Gaza.

Mr Galloway, who has represented several areas of England with large Muslim populations, said his shock win last night was 'for Gaza' as the Israeli onslaught seeking to destroy Hamas continues.

But the Board of Deputies of British Jews said his win was 'a dark day' for British Jews.

A spokesman said: 'George Galloway is a demagogue and conspiracy theorist who has brought the politics of division and hate to every place he has ever stood for Parliament.

'We believe he should be shunned as a pariah by all Parliamentarians.' Mr Galloway talked before and after the election about a desire to put Rochdale 'on the map',  re-open the local hospital's A&E, which closed in 2011, and rejuvenate the high street with shops including a new Primark.

In reality his campaign was designed just to repeatedly punch the Labour bruise over Gaza, a campaign made easier when Sir Keir Starmer finally removed party support from candidate Azhar Ali for voicing a conspiracy theory connected to the October 7 Hamas terror attack.

In the run-up to the vote, Mr Galloway proudly posed for pictures outside his campaign headquarters in a car showroom bedecked with a sign in the colours of the Palestinian flag.

The black, white, red and green was also all over his campaign literature, which branded him 'Pro Palestine, now and forever' before mentioning any local issues.

A spokeswoman for the charity Campaign Against Antisemitism said: 'George Galloway has an atrocious record of baiting the Jewish community.'

They added: 'Given his historic inflammatory rhetoric and the current situation faced by the Jewish community in this country, we are extremely concerned by how he may use the platform of the House of Commons in the remaining months of this Parliament.'
