Still Not Yet Confirmed But It Is Highly Likely That Prigozhin is dead - UK defence ministry

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says allegations that Russia gave an order to kill Yevgeny Prigozhin are “a complete lie"

  1. Peskov says there's "lots of speculation" amid the "tragic death" of the passengers on board the plane
  2. Earlier, the UK defence ministry said the Wagner chief Prigozhin is "highly likely" to be dead after Wednesday's plane crash near Moscow
  3. But it warns there is "not yet definitive proof" he was on board the plane, saying he was known to take "exceptional security measures"

  4. One US official has anonymously told the BBC's US partner CBS that an explosion on the aircraft was the probable cause
  5. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent condolences and paid tribute to Prigozhin on Thursday, but stopped short of definitively confirming he was dead.

Kremlin hits out at Biden over Prigozhin remarks

US President Joe Biden has been criticised by the Kremlin over comments he made about the plane crash that apparently killed Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said Biden's remarks were unacceptable, state-run Tass news agency reports.

Biden said on Wednesday that he was not surprised by the news, and that not much happens in Russia that Vladimir Putin is not behind.
