  3. Last night, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed Ukraine's counter-offensive was failing, with its army suffering major losses

  4. His comments come after Kyiv's counter-offensive against Russian forces got under way - with the Ukrainians saying their troops have recaptured seven settlements
  5. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky insisted last night that there was "movement forward" - citing advances in several areas
  6. The BBC's Ukraine correspondent James Waterhouse was among the first journalists to gain access to the newly recaptured villages, where he saw evidence of "a lot of close-quarters fighting".
